Holy Names Wall Hanging

A little while ago on U Create I was introduced to a fun project from the I Show Off Blog. She had a great (and great priced) pre-cut vinyl cling that I knew my Mom would love. I took her demo adapted it just a little and used a few new techniques that I’ve seen around to make a birthday gift for her. Now that her birthday is over I can show you all!

This is the vinyl cling that I bought from I Show Off  Check it out (and many others here.)

I started by dripping some wax in random places on the wood plaque (8×10) to create voids in the paint. I would highly suggest using a white candle but I didn’t have on in my closet so blue it was.

Then I painted the flat part cream and the edges black, I didn’t worry about perfection in fact I wanted the edges a little “sloppy” I also dry brushed some black stripes to give it some depth.

Then I scraped off the wax and added a little shading since there was a little blue cast on the wood from the candle wax.

Then I lined up the vinyl and rubbed it on, easy peasy.

There you have it all done and pretty. In fact my mom liked it so much I’m making another one for her to give to someone else!

I love how that turned out. I do a lot of vinyl lettering for bazaars and craft shows. I might just have to make my own version of your project, if you wouldn’t mind. Good job.
