Thoughts on Thursday: Date Night Jar

While looking through a linky post this week I stumbled upon this idea from Krista @ While He was Napping. I really liked this idea so I asked if I could share with you and she said yes!

I seem to always have grandiose ideas and dreams for date night.  And I’m always disappointed because I’m not in a situation to always make them come to fruition.  So, for my back up plan when I realize “It’s Thursday and I still don’t have anything planned!” I came up with The Date Night Jar.  I found some things I want to do around our area or other ideas that would be fairly easy to pull together.  I typed them up, printed them out and cut them apart.  Then I folded them and put all my strips in an empty Mason jar (which, of course, I cutesy-ied up).  Then I let my hubby choose one on Thursday night or Friday morning (or if I forget, I just pick one).  Usually, I don’t let him see it… build a little suspense and anticipation… but sometimes I do.  Your call.  Then I plan it and bam, date night is good to go!  See how easy that was!

What a great idea huh? MAC and I sat down the very day I read this and made our list of dates that we want to do around the city. Hope you do the same!

You Capture: Together

~*~ Don’t forget about my giveaway it closes on 10/8/10~*~

Ok I’m sorry I know you guys might be sick of paintball but this is a huge part of my life right now. I’m there most of Sunday and Sunday night we have dinner at our place with the boys. This week for the first time I played! Just a 1 on 1 and I lost badly but hey it was my first game…

Anyway, the only gear I have is a mask so no making fun of the outfit.

Mac and I walking the field (I know his mask isn’t on but if you look at the end of the barrel you will see a barrel cover, its like a safety on a paintball marker.)

A few last min hints from Mac.

Let the games begin.

Don’t I look awesome.

So normally once you are hit your done but since it was my first game the kept calling me ‘clean’ so I could keep playing. It was over after I got hit 3 times…I didn’t even hit Da-da once :(

It was fun, I like my little family and this is what we do together.

Green Challenge: Reuse Introduction

Hey everyone welcome to another green challenge from Life, Love, Green for the next 4 weeks I want to see how we can creatively reuse the items we already own instead of buying new.

I have a fun giveaway set up for the conclusion of this giveaway as well so hang on and join on in!

So how is reducing green anyway? By re-purposing things we already have we are being green in two ways

1. We are reducing the amount of ‘stuff’ we throw away.

2. We are reducing the amount of things we have to buy.

This is just the intro, just a taste of whats to come so here is one example.

I could go by a great set of drawer organizers and the would work well but this is what I did instead:

Cardboard!

I got to arrange them just how I wanted them and its all perfectly sized it took me about 20 min and I was done! The last time we bought a small drawer divider set (I mean SMALL it was $10.00!

Some other things that get reused at my house are most of the glass jars that I buy food in, we use storage containers instead of plastic for lunch and as I’ve said many times we use aluminum water bottles instead of plastic.

This week before you go out and buy something, I want you to take a look around your house and try to find something that can do the job. It may take a little work but it will save you money and help ‘save the planet.’

Giveaway from Stunt Puppy

Today I want to talk about a different way of being green, buying products that will last. They may not be made the ‘green’ way but if they prevent you from buying 3,4 and 5 of the same item then it turns out to be a good investment as well as greener than the alternatives.

A big part of my life is my adorable puppy Cooper. He is a 1 year old, 55 lb golden doodle and has a lot of energy. The best thing for that energy and my heath is for both of us to go for a run. I’m not sure if you’ve ever attempted this but  its awkward, the leash keeps getting in the way and it makes pumping your arms difficult without choking your dog.

One day at work my friend “R” told me about Stunt Puppy. I checked out their website and their products looked great.  Right away I saw a few items I would like, the Dry Collar looks great since Cooper likes to jump in the shower and play in the rain. The other item that caught my eye was the Stunt Runner. Stunt  Puppy was generous enough to supply me with 2 of their Stunt Runners, one for me to try out and one to giveaway!

Additional Stunt Runner™ Flexible Connector

The first time I tried it we just went for a walk around the block to see how it would go. I was pleasantly surprised with the stunt runner, Cooper isn’t fully leash trained (IE heel) and we normally use a gentle leader along with his leash. As Cooper circled around me the leash circled with him, I didn’t get tangled UP!!! In fact the only ‘problem’ I had was that I thought since I was hands free I would play around on my phone I ended up tripping on my flip flops and scraping up my knee. But that isn’t the leash or the dogs fault it was mine (insert sheepish grin here.)

The second time I used the gentle leader I went on a run with my friend. It was great! I was able to get the momentum from pumping my arms without worrying about the dog. The leash is short enough that when I’m running on one side of the bike path I don’t have to worry about people on the other side. Plus the elastic in the leash is just the right amount of give if Cooper falls behind or tries to run ahead. When I used it in conjunction with the gentle leader we literally had the perfect run!

(This is how pictures turn out when the camera is stationary and your using a remote.)

You can also buy a 2nd flexible connector if you want to run with 2 dogs.

If you are a runner or even like going for power walks I would highly suggest this it comes in 5 great colors (Black, Blue, Silver, Red and Orange.)

(Suggestion if your going to run with headphones tuck them through your shirt so they don’t get wound around the leash.)

Now for the fun part. If you are a dog owner and would like one of these Stunt Runners I have a blue one just for you! Here is all you have to do to enter your name in the drawing.

Leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry if you post one comment for all of these questions it will only count as 1 entry. ~*~ Open to USA Residents only, sorry.~*~

Flower Hoop

~*~ Don’t forget about my giveaway it closes on 10/8/10~*~

3 Hoops Down 5 to go. This time I decided to use a variety of fabric flowers. I started with 2 rolled flowers (check out this great tutorial from Sugar Bee), 2 yo yo flowers, and 1 ribbon flower. (Oh sorry about the bad pics I had 4 paintball guys over till late last night so I took what I could get.)

After seeing it all together I decided I didn’t like the ribbon flower so I removed it, I think I’m going to add one more flower in a darker color. Maybe this tattered flower from Sew4Home or these fun folded flowers from  Make It and love It.

PS this is the nifty tool I used to make the yo-yo flowers.
