Fall Subway Tile

This weekend I had a garage sale, after finishing my book I decided to work on a craft I’ve been wanting to try while sitting in my garage, this made for interesting pictures but I think the project turned out pretty good!

I’ve seen this new “Subway Art” on a lot of different blogs lately, I can’t tell you which one inspired me or which one was the first but its out there. However I haven’t seen one that have instructions on how to do it. So I thought I would give it a try and let you know how it went.

~I started off with a glossy finished 12×12 tile. I had it in my stash for another project that just never panned out.

~I used my Cricut and Gypsy to pick out different fonts and shapes and have them all print out on the same 6×12 piece of vinyl. At this point I didn’t do a lot of measuring since there was nothing on the tile but I did know I wanted my center word to leave the edges open for vertical words.

(See this is in my garage, that pink shelf is going to get a makeover and be in my office soon!)

~After I had set the first couple words I continued to use the gypsy to make the words the right size. I would measure the space I wanted a word to fit and would change the width to match, then the gypsy would automatically calculate the height needed I then checked the height to make sure it would still fit and make any adjustments necessary. I made this whole thing using only 2 6×12 inch vinyl sheets!

~I used a specical Creative memoreies tool to place them all on the paper straight, I decided not to show you this step since you can’t buy it anymore.

~Here it is after I placed the first word. I used a dry erase marker and a ruler to mark the center and help me place this first decal.

~All done, it was pretty time consuming but I really like the results, only one quston shoud I move the word Harvest down more and remove the leaf decal? I don’t know if I can handle that un-eaven spacing….

Hi! I love your subway art. I’ve seen it all over blogland and haven’t had the chance to give it a try, yet. I love the way yours turned out – but then again anything with fall words get a big “thumbs up” from me! :-)
You asked if you should move the word “Harvest” down and remove the leaf decal. What if you moved Harvest down and ever so slightly to the right and then take the little maple leaf decal and moved it to then be between the F in Fall and the H in Harvest?

  9. I love your subway art! What a cute idea for fall. It turned out great.

I found this idea on The CSI Project and thought it was great.

I’ve seen the subway tile ideas for awhile and just hadn’t gotten around to it, but you might have inspired me to finish it.

    Thanks for sharing!

I LOVE this! I did subway art on canvas once and had one letter crooked that still bugs me. lol I say that if the word harvest is bugging you, change it! I love the idea of doing this on a tile! My Habitat ReStore has a bunch of mismatched tiles and they’re fairly cheap *wheels turning*

    Thanks for linking up!
