Thoughs on Thursday: Its nice to be protected.

I’m a stubborn, independent woman, however I must admit it is nice to have a hubby who protective of me. Sometimes its a little weird or restrictive (not going downtown at night without him or a group of friends and the like.) But really look at that example going downtown alone at night wouldn’t be a great idea anyway. So I guess in the end he is a smart guy. It also means he stands up for me, who wouldn’t like that?

You Capture: The Letter “L”

I’ve been out for a while between life, and my computer dying but now I”m back and so far its been a great week, busy but good. My favorite night this week was Tuesday. My friend got tickets to the Hockey game and took 3 of us with her! So with out  further ado here are my “L” words.

Lively

(They are fighting)

Loud

(The fog horn and screaming after a goal.)

Loyal

I don’t know if you can see it  but we are ranked 5th in the league, but it wasn’t always that way but I stood by my team.

Green Mittens

I have these mittens, I love them. I bought them at a craft fair a few years back and they are great. The really cool thing about these mittens is they are made out of upcycled felted wool sweaters! But the right mitten has a few holes in it and I think its time to retire, so what to do

I could buy a new pair, I found a few stores on Etsy that have some mittens I like.

Felted Wool Sweater Mittens Fleece Lined Bronze with Black DiamondsThese are from Cristines Mittens “Mittens to warm your hands and heart.” I asked her why she started making recycled mittens and she had a great answer.

“I had been doing a desk job over the years, but was ready to take on something a bit more meaningful to me. I was very excited to learn how to make these mittens and, in my own small way, do something that helps show ‘repurposed’ can still be beautiful.

As the mother of three small children, I try to set an example for them in ways large and small that our society of consumption can become one of recycle, re purpose, reuse and at the same time be interesting and classy.”

Shades of Green Felted Wool Mittens from recycled Sweaters with fleece liningJust for fun here is one more store who not only makes mittens but also a number of other things from upcycled sweaters.  Wool Werks Org  She makes various sizes of mittens as well as bags and scarves. She even has fingerless mittens.

…or instead of buying them I could always make some. I have a thrift store up the streat where I could check out sweaters.  Then I could use one of these patterns .

DIY Felted MittensThe Hotstepperfrom www.missomnimedia.com has a good picture tutorial of some unlined mittens with and option for a longer wrist so they look more lady-like.

Marcie from www.mossymossy.com also has a great but brief word tutorial as well. Felted sweater mittens

Snowed in.

I was snowed in and not at my home last night so I figured I would just share some pics that we had taken this fall that make me smile. The photographer was Whitney Furst and she did a great job.

Back to our regular scheduled program tomorrow.
