A special gift.

I know it may not look like much, in fact its used, written on, has bent and dirty pages….and I won’t want it any other way.

It’s my Mom’s old Bible and its special for a lot of reasons.

First of all she bought it at a big music festival that we attended for many years and is a tradition I will not soon forget.

Secondly it is Her Bible with her heart in it. I can’ look through and see what is important to her, her thoughts prayers and praises. Infact that is the point of her giving it to me. Check out the note that came with it:

Amber- I was challenged by a gal telling her story to read, study and pray through my Bible and  and then give it to a loved one so they could ‘see’ that they were prayed for. Well, here ya go. Your name isn’t written everywhere but heart and prayers are. If I could only give you one piece of “advice” for your enitre life it would be take time to be in God’s wrokd EVERY day. So here is my devotional Bible-all set up to help you easily recognize God’s Promises for you. God and I love you, MomPhotobucket

Anyone else want to cry? It is the perfect gift for me. From the heart, and a challange to do something I struggle with consistant time in the Word.

Thanks Mom.

Shop Green

Consumerism is one of the biggest downfalls to ‘being green’ here are just a few simple ways you can green your shopping habits.
  • Shop with reusable bags this means fruits and veggies too here are some of my favorite bags. (No the are not a sponsor I just like them)
  • Pick products with the least amount of packaging (ie fresh)
  • When buying online always choose the option to ship items together this saves $$, packaging material and emissions.
  • Buy things that are manufactured in a eco-minded way.
  • Purchase items made from sustainable or recyled materials.
  • Buy MADE in the USA
  • Even better buy local (think food)
  • Use e- coupons instead of printing. Many places (Caribou, Michael’s, at Panara you just swipe your card!)

Grilling Green and a Giveaway!

Its summer and that means grill outs. When your at your own place its easy to stay green. Use your own plates, silverware, cups, cloth napkins excetra. Its even ok when your doing a picnic, just use your plastic stuff… but what about an all out grill out party? I’ve recently stumbled on recycled and biodegradable plates, cups and silverware! The best prices I’ve found recently are at Lets Go Green.  They have a good selection of bussnies and home needs like garbage bags, printing paper, light bulbs, tableware, and cleaning supplies.

Bad Mood

I’ll be back later today to post my normal Wednesday ‘green’ post but for now I need to get a few things off my chest.

It all started Monday morning when at 10:00 AM I was informed that my roof did indeed need to be replaced and it will not be covered by insurance. Why you may ask? Because the owners before us choose organic shingles when they replaced the roof in 1998 and turns out those shingles suck. They can’t handle the heat that builds in your attic and they start to curl and loose their grit. That started the $$ conversation, we have a good savings account but don’t want to put such a big dent in it right now. Since the roof isn’t leaking or anything we are going to start saving like mad, but that means cutting out a lot of fun things….

So I’m not looking forward to cutting out the gym, I keep telling myself that for the summer it will be fine and I can start up again in the winter but that is adding to my mood.

Tuesday was fine except my neck was bugging me.

Then today…I got out of the house on time (even a few min early) but as soon as I jumped in the car I saw the empty light, in the Pathfinder I don’t think I would even make it to work…so I started towards the gas station, Then I thought I didn’t have my wallet that slowed me down. Found it put in 2 gallons of gas and was on my way literally hitting every red light on the way to work. Next I noticed my husbands parking pass for work on my dash, great that means he has to pay or go get a ticket validated, not something you want to ask for to often and our greatest ‘fear’ with the shared car thing.

No I’m sitting at work with a very sore neck grumpy trying really hard not to give in to my sugar craving because I know it won’t really help anything….GRRRR.
