Blogger Bible Study: When I lay my Isaac Down Ch 4

My mom over at Treasure to Treasure is doing and online version of her Woman’s Bible study. I decided to join in too. We are reading “When I Lay my Isaac Down: Unshakable Faith in Unthinkable Circumstances.” this week completing chapter 4.  Here are the links for Chapters 1 & 2 as well as Chapter 3.

This week Carol talked a lot about stretcher barriers. Stretcher barriers comes from the story in the Bible when a paralyzed man was carried and then lowered on a stretcher in front of Jesus and was healed. Mark 2:1-12.  In this book we weren’t focusing on the healing however but the stretcher barriers. They physically carried their friend to Jesus. They cared for him so much that when it seemed all hope was lost and they would never get close to Jesus they continued to carry him and found another way.

Stretcher barriers are those friends who to through the unthinkable circumstances with you. They never let go and carry you when needed. You may not have many of them but as Carol says it only takes 1. These people pray for you, consistently, they help out  around the house if you need or they make sure you stay engaged with the real world when all you want to do is stay home. At least that is what my stretcher barriers did.  I was so blessed with people praying, sooo many people praying. We started a blog  just to keep them all updated. The youth from our church came and helped us with Christmas decorations and Fall clean-up. Frozen meals delivered weekly and people drove and sat with Mark during radiation treatments when I couldn’t get work off.

Wow, we had an amazing bunch of stretcher barriers during and even after our fight with cancer. People inviting me over to their house for family dinners so I could eat with someone, 4 families in particular keep me social. I would say honestly without them keeping me going I don’t think my heart would have been ready for Mac when I met him, but because of these four families it was.

That leads me to my latest stretcher barrier. Mac, I can’t think of anyone better to encourage me to live life. He holds me up on my bad days, and encourages me on the good ones.

I’ve truly been blessed, I think I need to start writing some thank yous, real hand written thank yous.

Thoughts on Thursday: Miss each other

Ok lets  talk to the girls first, since I know most if not all of my readers are female. When your separated from your spouse  for a night or a month its hard. You miss them and that’s ok, in fact that is a good thing. There may be a few days of enjoying having the house to  yourself (if  you don’t have kids) but then you just want your guy back. So go ahead and miss him. Set up times you can call, video chat, whatever you want to do to stay connected.  Maybe write notes and stick him in his socks so he gets a surprise when he puts them on.

BUT don’t become that wife who calls 80 times a day and all the other guys groan when they hear the phone ring. I know it seems fine to us to call when we think of something, hey we might forget later but for guys, ish,  I have it on good authority. (I may have been that wife a time or two.) Now if you have a good reason to call, do. Family emergency, furnace is working, kids are hurt, whatever, call. For me when I want to call with one of those little things, I just make a note of it and then when we do our before bed call we can talk about everything at once. Sometimes it make the conversation weird to “refer to my list’ but in the grand scheme of things its a better way for us.

Now you guys, its easy to go in to ‘busniss trip mode’ or ‘hunting mode’ and forget about us ladies. We know its not because you don’t love us, but after a few days of not hearing from you it makes us sad :( So if you can i.e. your not out on a hunting trip with no cell service. Try to acknowledge us in one way every day. Send a text if you don’t have time for a call. Or even if its a longer trip send a card home.

Find what works for you guys and remember its ok to miss each other!

Report Card: Oct Week 2

This was a hard week scale wise in fact this morning (Sunday) It told me I gained 1 pound back. Grr. But I have to remind myself that I’m not simply going for weight loss I’m going for toning as well and this week I think I got alot of that muscle work. I’m actually guessing I gained a pound of muscle this week because things just keep fitting better!

I don’t have any great recipes to share this week we ate pretty boring. However I did try a Vinyassa Yoga 2. It was good I could keep up just fine but it was FAST and it made me think to hard to really reap any of the peaceful calming benefits so I think for now I’ll stick with level 1.

One of my main workouts this week was roofing our house, yep we did that Friday, Saturday and just a few hours on Sunday. Other than that I did a regular gym workout and yoga.

In fact the week was so boring I’m not going to bother you with the formal report card.

Lastly there will be no report card next week, I’ve got a crazy busy week and another paintball trip this weekend so I’m not going to stress out over it.
