A Wintery Valentines Wreath

So I’m not a super heartsy pink type of girl plus February is a cold snowy month here in Minnesota. I needed a wreath for outside my door that would reflect a Minnesota Valentines Day. So I started with a evergreen wreath and along with my mom over at Treasure to Treasure we dressed it up with a little vinyl and ribbon.

Start with a few sheets of vinyl and cut them out in progressively smaller hearts.

I simply layered the hearts on each other and then placed the back on on a thin piece of cardboard to make it sturdy.  Then I added some stickers to say XOXO, punched a hole at the top and hung it from the wreath.

I added a light pink ribbon all around and the a few small red ribbon bubbles here and there.  There you have it my Wintery Valentines Day Wreath.

Thoughts on Thursday: When you don’t know how to help.

I’m not sure if its the drastic weather change, a hormone thing or what but the last two weeks have been very hard for me emotionally and Mac has noticed. I’m on edge, snippy, very sensitive and easily angered for no good reason. Right there is the problem, there is no obvious reason why. That makes it really hard for both of us, as frustrating as it is for me I know Mac feels bad too. He doesn’t know how to help and I don’t know what to tell him. Monday I had a pretty major breakdown he just hugged me listened and waited. We did narrow down one of my delimas (to be discussed another day on here.) But we still couldn’t figure out the why.

My point today is sometimes there is no clear way to help something get better, there is not a ‘fix’ per sea. All you can do is stand beside the one you love and hope and pray it all works out. Prayer is one of the best things you can do, pray, hug repeat.

You Capture: Cold

Wow its been a while since I’ve participated in You Capture, but once I saw the theme was Cold and I went to this crazy event it was easy to jump back in.

Shoveling snow off the track before the event.

So a friend of mine (J) and I went to downtown St. Paul this weekend to check out the Red Bull Crashed Ice event. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into but it was crazy! We went early to scout the area and it was amazing! The track had crazy sharp turns on an incline, hills, jumps and all with 3 other skaters trying to take you out while you complete it in the fastest time possible. The event was held on the St Paul Cathedrals grounds which made for some great background shots.

I love the glow in this picture.

So after scouting it out we walked further downtown to eat, our first choice had a line out the door so we went to a fun little pizza and burger joint taht was so small I couldn’t get a picture of it (had my 70-200 lens on.)

Once we got back to the event there were a few more people wondering around…like 70,000!!

Then it all began, we had a pretty limited view and it was crazy pushy so we stayed for about 5 rounds and then made our way back to the car. I can’t wait to watch it on tv this weekend!

Large events go Green!

This weekend in St. Paul MN was (from my understanding) the first ever Crashed Ice event in the USA. What is that you may ask? Come back tomorrow for pics and an explanation. Today I want to focus on something I saw everywhere I turned on the event grounds:

I think its great that large events like this are promoting recycling, especially when they are walking around selling Red Bull cans. I know it seems like a simple thing but it is one more thing they have to plan, set up, tear down and then actually find a place to recycle.

I’m excited that ‘green’ things like this are becoming the norm, instead of the exception.

What ‘green’ things have you seen mainstreamed?

Getting back on the wagon.

So right after I ran my first 5k of the year…I got sick. No big surprise there, hubby was sick a few days before the run and then when my immune system was down I ran 3.1 miles outside on the coldest day of the winter (well until then anyway.) It was bad enough that I took about 5 days off of exercising and man is it hard to get back on the wagon. Its cold here now so no more running outside :( plus the gym is full of resolutioners and its hard to get into any of the classes without showing up 20-30 min early, not how I want to be spending my gym time.

But I’m starting to track what I’m eating again, I’m not doing to great with my water intake but at least I recognize it and I took the first step towards training for my 7k in March. I ran the 2.2 miles to the gym (on the one nice night) did a core class and then ran back home. That felt good its the most I’ve ever run in one day.

I’m focusing on more strength training and general ‘fitness’ this month but making sure I’m running at least one 3+ mile run a week to stay with it. Then in Mid Feb I’ll start upping my distances to get ready for the 7k its going to be hard for me, I get board. But I can do it!!!
